Y is for YEW Alongside a footpath leading from Lackham House in the direction of the Museum is a well-established yew hedge. Topiary is a skilled traditional form of shaping features into a hedge through hand-clipping. Often they will have a significance to the site. At Lackham you can clearly see a crouching fox hiding and awaiting to pounce on two birds facing each other. The clippings from the hedge's annual trim are collected for cancer research purposes. |
