T is for THRESHING BARN

The Museum's Burderop Barn is a fine example of an early
18th Century thatched threshing barn.

Featuring two sets of opposing doors opening from floor to eaves, it is easy to imagine the horse and wagons entering one side, off-loading, then leaving through the opposing doors.

Appropriately within the barn are displays featuring the farming year including a primitive winnowing machine, flail and a rare barn threshing machine.

The project to re-locate the barn to the Lackham site was a considerable undertaking and received a highly commended certificate in the heritage category awarded by the Conservation Foundation with a great deal of credit to John Gullis, the estate carpenter who supervised the reconstruction.

Since retiring John still returns regularly to survey this
testament to his skills and dedication.
